With both Federico Navarro and Jairo Torres going down injured in the first half, winger Fabian Herbers came on just before the break to play in the double pivot in midfield. Herbers played the role well for the first twenty minutes of the second half, before being shifted out onto the wing for the remainder of the match. Herbers was dynamic in attack and was able to connect plays in key areas of the pitch.
Having already performed well on the night, Herbers’ key moment came in the 75th minute of play. Poised at the top of the box, Herbers pounced upon the loose clearance from a Fire set-piece. Herbers made perfect connection on the half-volley, and Soldier Field erupted in joy as the ball smashed into the back of the net.
