Today marks the start of a new chapter for the Chicago Fire Football Club. Players, staff, and fans will most certainly be wanting to erase the bad memory of last season. In the 2022 campaign, the Fire finished 12th in the East and was one of only two teams in the whole league to register less than 40 goals in the 34-game regular season.
Leaving the memory of last season behind, the Chicago Fire open the 2023 campaign against NYCFC tonight at 7:30 PM CST. The Fire certainly have a point to prove after losing both of their league matches to NYCFC last year. Outplayed and outscored 3-0 over the course of the two games, the Fire will want to set the record straight at Soldier Field tonight. Fire fans however should look optimistically upon this match after watching NYCFC perform poorly in their 2-0 loss to Nashville last weekend.
Fire fullback Justin Reynolds has been ruled out of tonight’s match with an ankle injury, while Sergio Orgel Jr. is also unavailable through illness. Recently turned 19-year-old goalkeeper Chris Brady, who was expected to get the start tonight, might also miss the match with an upper leg injury. Mauricio Pineda is also questionable with a lower leg injury
In terms of NYCFC injuries, Trayvon Gray and Alfred Morales are both questionable for tonight’s match after having trained separately from the team this week.
The match will be streamed exclusively on Apple TV, however, it will not be behind the MLS Season Pass.
