The Chicago Fire have completed the signing of free agent Jack Elliott, the club announced today. Elliott was one of the top prizes from MLS free agency in 2025 after leaving the Philadelphia Union at the end of the last season. Elliott is under contract with the Fire for the upcoming season with an option for 2026.

Elliott, 29, has made 223 MLS appearances since he was selected in the fourth round of the MLS SuperDraft in 2017. The London-born defender was a key part of Philadelphia’s recent run of successful seasons that saw them reach MLS Cup in 2022 and capture the 2020 Supporters' Shield.

The signing of Elliott marks the second straight season in which the Fire have landed a top target from free agency after securing the signature of Kellyn Acosta last season. Elliott, like Acosta, plays in a position of need, as bolstering the center back position was always going to be a priority for new Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter in his first offseason.

Elliott, who stands at 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 meters) tall, will be the joint tallest player in Chicago Fire history alongside goalkeeper Greg Sutton, who made five MLS appearances for the club between 1999 and 2000. He will, therefore, be the tallest outfield player ever to play for the club, and will add a significant aerial threat on both ends of the field.
